I slept with Peter!

Peter Alexander that is…

I am SO happy I was introduced to Peter Alexander in New Zealand! Turn’s out he’s actually from Australia and boy’s can sleep with Peter too!… Joking aside I’m talking about the pyjama designer Peter Alexander who started his company a whole 25 years ago and I’ve only just found out about it now. I have officially been living under a rock!!

Firstly this shop smells absolutely fantastic thanks to the sweet sweet scent of Glasshouse candles. I am a huge fan of The White Company and their diffusers but these candles are something else! (I bought the Santorini scent and its a mix of comforting and fresh or blue jasmine draped in cool ivy to be exact) You can smell it through the box! Then there is the Pyjamas, slippers, children’s wear, doggie clothes?! and … this is where it got interesting BOYS pyjama too!

For me it was really bizarre to have boy’s pyjamas in this store because it is so girly and cute… if Kate Spade were to make pyjamas and create a collection based on cute dogs then this would be it. But hey maybe it works in Australia… come to think of it is there even such a thing as a boy’s pyjama store in the UK (or anywhere)?

Peter is clearly inspired by an array of subjects but I can’t help thinking there is a link to American 1950’s, Collage dorm room style and old school English children’s pyjama (Mary Poppin’s vibes) mixed with his love for animals which is his signature. He also follows the trends and has just launched a palm spring collection. It’s his own dogs which created the inspiration for the cute pooch logo and doggie clothes. His love doesn’t stop at design because he also  gives money to the RSPCA and is in collaboration with coffee manufacture Moccona to bring you your morning dose of Peter…!

It states on his website that he brings out a new collection each month which is really impressive.. I’ve already seen there is a halloween collection popping up! You can tell there is a lot of love that goes into this brand and there is a lot to love about it! You have the classic English style button up pyjama for girls…. the type of PJ’s you can wear at your boyfriends family home that will give his mum the impression you are an angel….

… I told you so!

Then you have signature tops, you know the type, plain soft tee with a simple graphic on it that you can mix and match or sometimes even wear in the day  (I mean I’m only going to grab a coffee…) Plus I found jogging bottoms that I genuinely would wear to the gym (ha ha if I go) or to chill in. Next you have dresses.. so many viscose cotton blend dresses with amazing prints on! I am not a fan of the super cutesy prints but I’ll take floral any day!

He does every style for different body types… sleep wear is actually quite difficult to master because it is all based on comfort. Then there are other elements like whether you live by yourself and the climate of your home. I personally love loose fitting pyjamas and a lot of fabric so I can wrap myself up in something therefore I’d opt for the dress on the left. P.S how happy would you be receiving that gift box in the post?!

So the main item I got super excited about were the gowns. Everyone needs a pyjama gown to make them feel like a lady of leisure/ bond girl…. imagine you’re lounging around all day in your hot pyjama gown sipping champagne ( or getting ready to go to work in 9 minutes is more like it) but a girl can dream!…    oppt have I just created a new campaign for sleep wear?!

If it was up to me and not my bank account I would have also bought the baby blue ‘waffle cotton’… it’s more of a towelling cotton gown which is super cosy and perfect for after a shower. But I went for this, don’t get me wrong I’m SUPER happy with this purchase and it is so so soft and cool. I love the feel of viscose and cotton because it always feel’s cool against your skin and never creases.

I meeaann floral… lacy … wrap over with belt tie….baby pink embroidered logo what more do you want? It’s actually a navy blue but appears black in the photo but I would love a black silky gown! The gown’s rang between $90-£110 Australian Dollars. The brand is also available in the US but sadly no where else….. can’t wait to go back and purchase more items especially the navy towel thongs (flip flops)!

I wanna wear them all day every day! You can check out Peter on his instagram account but it doesn’t do the shops justice! ‘ I slept with Peter’ is actually his tag line which appears on all of his merchandise, cheeky Peter!

Hello readers/ aspiring cabin crew ! If you have found this page I will let you in on a few secrets because I too was researching and reading blogs in order to land the cabin crew role. I shall be sharing my experience of the open day, assessment day and interview, along with some tips for the photos that Emirates require.

*Preparing for the open day – I only knew by researching online :

1. Apply online for the cabin crew job

2. Print out full length & half length photos of yourself in business attire that matches and fits you well. ( At this stage these do not need to be professional however later on when attending the final interview it is advised that you go to a professional photographer to get your pictures taken)

3. Print out a smiley (showing teeth) passport sized photo of your face. Skim over the Emirates website and latest news articles to show you are on the ball because if you are a small group the recruiters may ask you questions. Arrive 30 mins early and talk to everyone as they are watching you from the start. Stand tall and be elegant!

Firstly ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! I went to the open day with… an open mind! I hadn’t really considered working as cabin crew before but since graduating from university in London I wanted to move abroad and experience different cultures. I studied a Fashion Design degree and I thought what better way to gain inspiration and research than travelling around the world and getting paid! I went in relaxed and at ease although I did have a nose bleed when the recruiter was giving the presentation which I managed to time perfectly near the break ahah……….. disaster (nobody noticed… I’m THAT discrete). My point is I didn’t make myself nervous because if I wasn’t successful this time I took that as a sign I should explore other career paths or just try again!

Secondly DRESS TO IMPRESS think old school glamour… ladies your skirt should be at your knees or lower this is Emirates!! Heels are nice but don’t put on your clubbing heels with huge platforms. At this stage of the application process your image and aura is everything. Then you simply watch slide shows about life in Dubai and walk up to the recruiters table at the front and hand in your CV and photos. I didn’t get asked any questions at this point but be your smiley self and you will be heading to the assessment day!

Now I’m not going to explain every detail and task of the assessment day because you can find it on other people’s blogs and I literally read every blog online and nothing was a surprise on the day…. actually the blogs made it sound more stressful. The aim of the day is to hear you talk and speak out loud and interact with each other. The people that didn’t make it at this stage had trouble speaking clear English on the day and lacked confidence. Think of it as a stage and just give it your all but don’t put too much pressure on yourself :D! …….. There is a lot of waiting around so bring snacks and juice.

I was invited to go to the head quarters in central London for my final interview which was pretty nerve wracking! Walking in to be greeted by a long red desk of maybe 10 receptionists dressed head to toe in the Emirates uniform made me a little anxious. Again I googled and researched ’emirates final interview questions’ and even just ‘cabin crew interview questions’. The questions they ask you are all on customer service, I had done many customer service related jobs so I had a handful of scenarios in my head already……… they will ask you something like ‘ tell me about a time you had to change your behaviour when serving a customer of a different culture,’ they want to know you can recognise that different cultures have different behaviours and that you are able to behave in a respectful manner towards these people. Once you provide them with an answer they might press you to explain why you thought that was a good idea or not. Main thing is turn up early and bring ALL your documents with you. If you aren’t able to provide some of the documents due to time they will understand but the quicker you do the quicker you will be in Dubai! Sadly for males it takes longer to be hired purely because there are only around 3 males to every 11/12 girls.

I had never been to Dubai before this job but have always wanted to come and I absolutely love it here! I get so excited coming back from a layover to Dubai. Try and love it and make a life here when you join and good luck!
